Crowd gathering around Justice Building in Male’ : Fareed and supporters march through Male' streets in protest of the atrocities and injustices of Gayyoom's government

Large crowd is gathering near the Justice Building because Sheikh Fareed is being sentenced today and they want to hear it. The building door is now shut and police is trying to disperse the crowd of almost 1000 people. We will bring you the latest as it comes. Mariyam Mohamed, from the scene, Male’ 11^th August 2004

The courtroom was packed with police wearing normal clothing so as to avoid any member of the public from getting in. The crowd is now estimated to be 2000 and growing.
Fareed has been taken out of court without sentencing
Fareed being released and he is marching around Male' with the crowd - now near ADK Hospital in Sosun Magu - crown in over 2000 now from Hotels School to ADK - they are screaming "Allah is Great!"
Crowd calling for Gayyoom's government to stop torturing people
Crowd now near Yameen's house and screamed that this house belongs to the people - it is built with people's money
President's palace door was shut and police on high alert
The crowd have now dispersed - no violence reported
One of the protesters said "we just want to make a statement that we are no longer scared of Gayyoom and his military. We only fear Almighty Allah!"
Fareed and his supporters are now in Islamic Centre for prayer
Insiders report that the government was to pass a 20 year sentence on Fareed today but had to postpone due to overwhelming support for his and the call his immediate release because he is completely innocent.
NSS insider reported a few moments back that Police is on high alert with tankers, tear gas and even assault weapons

Many feel that Gayyoom will twist this tale and project this as islamic extremists; he has already alleged that these young men are terrorists. Just because they have long beard and short trousers, does not mean they are terrorists. The international community will never buy that. Go to Birmingham mosques on any other mosque in Europe on a Friday and you will see thousands of Fareed's.. are they terrorists, certainly not.
