Effective today, all Dhiraagu Mobile numbers will have
an additional digit starting with 7, (i.e. 772211 will
be 7772211). The old numbers will work until end of July
'05. It is believed that Dhiraagu is installing a new
system in order increase their competitive advantage
with Al-Wataniyya, due to launch a new mobile network in
Maldives soon.
What
strikes most people is how much of a market share
Dhiraagu stands to loose because many are determined to
switch to Wataniyyaa just to show their outrage and
express their anger at years of being ripped off.
Telecom

Dhiraagu cooperates with Gayyoom's government in their

Major Hulhule' Moosa son beaten up inside IGMH Hospital
by Maldives police while the parliament discussed
torture bill
Male' - Ahmed Fayaz (Fayaa) who has been serving a drugs
related sentence in Maafushi jail was brought to IGMH
Hospital yesterday for a medical check-up and treatment.
To his misfortune, inside the hospital reception, he saw
a man who had tortured him in jail, a policeman. He
immediately screamed and threw verbal abuse at the man
which raged him and 3 of his Police colleagues who
indiscriminately began beating the life out of Faya
until he could not move. The officials of Prisons
department stood there until the policemen were finished
and then had to transfer Faya to the emergency room for
treatment. What was meant to be a routine medical
check-up turned out to be a matter of life and death.
Ironically, all of this happening in broad daylight in
the central hospital in Male' whilst the house of
parliament was debating the issue of torture and killing
by Gayyoom's police in Maldives.
Faya is believed to be stable but had sustained serious
injuries during this rampage.
Word of caution to readers; please do not attack or
abuse policemen, they are above the law.

No-Pay Leave for several Maldivians working in tourist
resorts
After the tsunami
hit the Maldives last December, the occupancy of the
Maldives resorts have fell dramatically. However,
according to industry experts, the industry is
recovering at a satisfactory speed and occupany although
low compared to previos years, is relatively good and
increasing stadily and is currently at around 50%.
In an attempt to cut costs, resort managements have
started giving No-Pay leaves to many local staff for 2
months. These people say that they are only paid US$150
on average and that income is desperately needed for
their families to survive. What is upsetting them is
that there are foreign executive staff who are paid as
much as 10 times the local average pay, who are not
asked to take a No-Pay leave.

Gayyoom's
visit to North Atolls
Dhidhdhoo - Despite
the claim that it was an official visit by Gayyoom to
Northern Haa Alif Atoll, according to locals it was just
a site inspection visit to see the situation at his
son-in-law, the Bangladeshi-British millionair Shuaib
Shah's Dhonakuli Resort and Supposed-to-be Yacht Marina.
Named "Island Hideaway" Dhonakulhi is almost completely
developed to be marketted as a luxury spa resort and not
as a Yacht marina as it was originally expected.
Another twist in the project is that in Dhonakulhi -
Island Hideaway - there are more than 70 foreign workers
and just 15 local Maldivians, which is again supposed to
be against the law but then Prince Shuaib is above the
law for he is after all Gayyoom's favourite son in law.

"Have
the mullahs turned Christian?" – What's the Point?
It appears the article titled "Have the mullahs turned
Christian?" appearing on the so-called Maldives Royal
Family website is aimed at tarnishing the image of Islam
as a tolerant religion. Reading other articles in the
site also confirms this. The author goes on quoting
Quranic verses out of context without considering other
verses relating to the same issue or the historical
context of the verses. This is a typical strategy used
by people who want to portray Islam as an intolerant
religion, among other things. For the benefit of
readers, here's some explanation which will clarify the
doubts the article may have created about Islam.

We hate Maumoon...
First of all, there is no doubt that you are doing a
great job there. I am a Maldivian currently studying in
Malaysia. I also would like tell something about how
Maumoon is ruling the country.
In the last 27 years Maumoon did whatever, he can to
keep the people of Maldives in ignorance. The main
reason for this is undoubtedly to remain in power.
However, since Maldivians have a great desire for
education, parents spend almost all of their income for
the education of their children. Therefore, our parents
today have broken Maumoons' resistance to keep us in the
dark. This is why today his people are questioning his
way of ruling the country. Today we know that he is not
capable as a leader.

Aid Sustaining Gayyoom's Torturous Rule in Maldives
South Atoll Development Building built in Hithadhoo in
Addu Atoll is currently being used as a regional police
headquarter in order to crush the rebellion against
Gayyoom's tyranny according to local sources.
The building which was design and built under aid from
Asian Development Bank and Islamic Development Bank is
supposed to be the coordinating centre for the
developments in Southern Atolls of Maldives. Locals say
that the building has never really been used for any
purpose other than activities of the Atolls Ministry,
which is charged with these development programs.
People of Addu Atoll are disgusted by the fact that
Gayyoom's police is now occupying the buildings with the
full blessing of the Atoll Minister Abdulla Hameed,
whose prime objective is to sustain the rule of his
elder brother Gayyoom. Addu people are courageously
standing against the regime of Gayyoom and the only
objective of Gayyoom's police is to terrorise and
torture them - the people of Addu Atoll.
International organization and community is urged to
review their cooperation with the illegitimate
government of Gayyoom as their prime objective is to
develop the nation of Maldives and contribute and assist
in the development of the livelihoods of her people.
Gayyoom is abusing the rights of his people and using
such aid to prolong his reign of terror. The people of
Addu despise him and want better days for the people of
Maldives which can only be possible WITHOUT Gayyoom.
