In
praise of the demonstrators
The peaceful demonstration by the supporters of the Maldivian Democratic Party
on last Tuesday and the events preceding it brought out a few truths home. First
and foremost, it must be clear now to even to the most ardent supporters of
Gayoom that the violence in our society is created by the security forces under
the control of Gayoom. For once when the security forces refrained from beating
the public, whom they are legally obliged to protect, the peacefulness of our
society, despite the vast number that joined the gathering, was visible for all

it is calling for justice and protection by law and

Thousands attended the meeting and vowed to participate in the peaceful

In the meeting, organisers explained different aspects of the demonstration and

Senior MDP members including Vice President Zaki and shadow Minister Dr. Waheed

Shiruhan was
stabbed by Golhaa's family yesterday. His
condition is still critical but stable. |
|
Stabbing incident
of 18th January was orchestrated directly by
Gayyoom's family
Male' - Sources in Male' have confirmed that the
actual culprit who stabbed Shiruhan day before
yesterday is currently being under the control
of reformists and he has confessed that
Gayyoom's nephew, Adheel Jaleel's son (Raslaan
Ahmed) had contract-hired him to assault
Shiruhan for no reason other than the fact that
he is an active member of MDP.
There are indications that the full recording of
the confession will be available to the public
very soon.
It was also reported that despite attempts by
Adheel and his son to protect the attacker, some
factions in the police took the side of the
public and stopped it from happening.
According to
political analysts, this is clear proof that
Golhaabo has lost control of law and order in
the country. The public is now having to ensure
that the country does not fall into chaos and
disarray as they do not have any confidence in
the dictator anymore.

Male' - Confirmed reports say that MDP Vice
President Hon. Zaki's house also has been

been roaming the streets of Male' attacking
houses and even some MDP members.
"They were not able to go into the house but
they have thrown things into the building and
also broke some windows with iron bars," said an
informant at the scene.

As the news spread of the attack on Shareef's

Some key MDP

Addu
Atoll MP Hon. Shareef's house ransacked by
Golhaa's Paatey
Male' - Several
Paateys (druggies and thieves on the loose in
Male' maintained and protected by Gayyoom) has
once again attacked the house of MDP Shadow
Tourism Minister and MP for Addu Atoll Hon.
Ibrahim Shareef late this evening. They came
into the house and wanted to know where Shareef
was and when they could not get him they went on
a ransack and broke furniture and equipment in
the property. Like in Mugabe of Zimbabwe,
Gayyoom is increasingly using these thugs to
create violence and unrest in the community so
that he can remain in power. Similar attacks on
other MDP officials are expected over the coming
days.

News Update
Once
again Golhaa TV and Radio is spreading lies
Local media controlled by Golhaabo is spreading
lies once again as usual. The report by police
is saying that whilst they tried to stop
Faseeh's bus, the residents of Addu came to the
scene and created the problems there. It also
says that Faseeh is not injured whilst
eyewitnesses confirm that he was practically
lifeless when arrest.
The allegation that Faseeh had drove through a
police blockade is false yet now the police is
saying that they are going to arrest Faseeh
tonight. Addu people are wowing to resist these
atrocities and crimes committed by Gayyoom's
illegitimate government.
Breaking News Update

Driver and
assistant of the police jeep named - Injured
Faseeh to be arrested
Feydhoo -
Eyewitnesses have confirmed that the police man
who was drove the jeep over the bruised body of
Faseeh was in fact a resident of
Maradhoo-Feydhoo called Thoif Saeed. His
assistant in the same jeep was Niushad of
Feydhoo, Chaandhanee Ge.
The victim in this
brutal attack, Faseeh is apparently going to be
arrested by police shortly, said an informant in
Addu Police.
School Bus
Driver Faseeh was run over by police jeep as
they fled the scene
Addu - Confirmed reports say that Faseeh was not
only beaten up and left to die but rather he was
run over by the militia police jeep as they fled
the scene. "When we found him he was not
even breathing. He is now in hospital and is
breathing slowly. There were tyre marks on his
clothing to suggest that he was run over and
some pupils are testifying to that effect as
well. Pupils are terrified of this ordeal today"
said the informant.
Faseeh is from
Mannooge, Maradhoo-Feydhoo and is a very
active member of MDP in Addu Atoll. According to
his friends and associates, he played no part in
the ramming of police as claimed by them. "Even
that incident was a setup, that is what we
believe. If someone had rammed them and people
were thrown into air, there must be some
causalities," said a local resident of Hithadhoo.

roaming the streets on motorbikes, to beat-up

another paatey in the passenger seat holding one
or two iron bars. What is interesting is that at
the back of the group are two Golhaa's militia
vehicles, giving them protection.
There are
also reports that lots of people are around the
artificial beach area and another confrontation
amongst Golhaa's thugs and reformists in

Gayyoom's militia
police beat up bus driver and abandons him on
Addu Link Road
Feydhoo - Sources have reported that a school
bus driver named Faseeh was brining the Feydhoo
pupils back from Hithadhoo when the bus was
stopped by Golhaa's militia police and late
afternoon today. They then beat up the bus
driver badly and left him at the side of the
Link Road and fled the scene. Some pupils were
also attacked by the militia says the sources.
Gayyoom's militia, also known as Golhaa Force,
thinks that it was Faseeh who drove through a
check point allegedly injuring some of them and
this was there way to taking revenge. This talks
heaps about the ability to maintain law and
order. "These evil people stick together and
defend each other. They took revenge without any
proof. This is similar to the revenge they took
on Evan Naseem in 2003, because he had allegedly
hit a police security person in jail with a
stick. Evan had to pay for that offence with his
life." said a prominent lawyer from Addu.
Many locals are
now gathered at the scene and it is not clear
how severe his condition is but unconfirmed
reports say that he has not regained
consciousness yet.
According to Addu
reformists, there will be organised protests in
Male' near Mercury Light, Majeedhee Magu as well
as near MDP offices in Hithadhoo and Feydhoo
tonight. Many reformists are expected to take
part in the protest to show their outrage over
this barbaric activities by Golhaa Force.

Golhaa Force deployed to Addu
Addu - Confirmed reports say that two flight

Golhaa Force can control any situation. "If we
people remain silent, it will not only affect
just Addu but the whole Maldives," said an

Golhaa Force to torture and abuse us all the

people in Male' are going to join the
demonstration tonight after the shops close to

Male' - 9:47pm -
Gayyoom's militia has given protection to the
culprit believed to be 'Rabarey'who stabbed MDP
member Shiruhaan and attacked others this
morning. Reports say that Yameen had arranged
for him to leave the country but the public came
to know about it and hence Golhaa's militia have
now given him protection and he is now believed
to be in Kalhuthukkalaa Koshi in Male'.
Gayyoom's militia was forced to act in order to
control public anger.
Male' - 9:38 -
Golhaa's militia headquarters has been blocked
and apparently protected fearing the
demonstrators might want to get close to the HQ.
Male' - 9:33pm -
Large crowds demonstration in different
locations. Gayyoom's Star Force Militia (also
known as Golhaa Force) is on high alert. Some
demonstrators are heading towards the house of
Chief Torturer Adam Zahir's house. Demonstrators
are calling for the resignation of both the
Dictator 'Golhaabo' and Adam Zahir, the
Torturer.
More
details of the attack are now surfacing. It is
now believed that it was a sharp iron rod that
was used to attack Shiruhaan. Associates report
that family members have said that it almost
went through his arm pit and almost came out of
his shoulder. Further investigations are needed
to ensure that none of his critical organs have
been ruptured. However, some nerves are badly
damaged according to reports. He is still in ADK
and not being flown abroad as was speculated
earlier.
Male' - 9:18 pm -
Dictator's own media in Maldives is spreading
lies about the stabbing incident of Shiruhan
today. The news is saying that Shiruhan
purposely got involved in a fighting between
some drug addicts - paateys. However, there is
increasing evidence that Gayyoom's militia and
his own brother Yameen along with Chief
Torturer, Commissioner of Police Adam Zahir was
involved in this incident directly.
Male' - 8:37 pm - This morning, some senior
members of MDP were attacked by Gayyoom's
private mob (locally know as 'Paateys'). As the
dictator returned today from a long private
break in Singapore coupled with a quick visit to
Kuwait, tension has risen even further. In Male'
the stabbing incident this morning was almost
deadly and the condition of Hameed Shiruhan is
critical according to family and friends.
This is a clear sign of the intention of Gayyoom
to continue his oppressive rule even by creating
social conflict and violence only to blame it on
his opponents.
More than 2000 people are now gathered near ADK.
These Paatey groups are directly sponsored by
Gayyoom and his police militia does nothing but
encourage them and protect them without any
regard for the safety of the public. We will
continue to update with any new developments.
Political Review
Gayyoom's
last attempt to salvage his dictatorship is to
create social conflict and violence
According to reliable sources within the Gayyoom's
circle, he is contemplating on arresting a number of key MDP officials in the
name of maintaining public order and security. The current incidents of conflict
between Gayyoom sponsored thugs and reformists (who are mostly MDP members) is a
deliberate attempt by the regime to throw the blame at the biggest political
party in Maldives, the MDP.

Landhoo
Ibrahim summoned over an alleged traffic offence
Male' - MDP member and pro-democracy activist
Landhoo Ibrahim was summoned to the police after allegedly violating a traffic
regulation. "He had parked his motorcycle in a no parking area but there were 28
other vehicles parked there because the zone was full," said and eyewitness.
But, he was summoned and asked if he was trying to create a disturbance in the
public and not about the alleged offence. In reality, he should have been issued
a traffic violation fine on the spot and not taken to police. It is not known

Stardust
capsule returns to Earth
A capsule containing comet particles and interstellar
dust has landed on Earth after a seven-year space
mission. The US Stardust probe released the capsule as
it flew back to Earth after a 3 billion-mile (4.7
billion km) trip. The capsule plunged through the
atmosphere and touched down in the Utah desert at 0312
(1012 GMT). Scientists believe the first cometary dust
samples ever returned to Earth will shed light on the
origins of the Solar System.

Emir Dies After 27 Years in Power
KUWAIT CITY - Sheik Jaber Al Ahmed
Al Sabah, the Kuwait emir who survived a 1980s
assassination attempt and a decade later escaped Iraqi
troops invading his oil-rich Persian Gulf state, died
Sunday and was replaced by the crown prince. Despite the
wealth and well-consolidated family rule, Sheik Jaber
was considered a quiet listener who avoided ostentation.
His palace in Kuwait City's Dasman neighbourhood near
the sea was described as a spacious but ordinary house,
and bread and yogurt often satisfied him at mealtime.

How
Much are we Prepared to Sacrifice?
For an innocent man - or woman -
to remain incarcerated even for a single day is a
horrendous punishment. Especially when the person is not
deserving of the punishment and is innocent of the
crimes charged with by the State, as in the case of the
MDP Chairperson Nasheed.
