MDP celebrates its registration as the first political party in Maldives

Tonight, more than 7000 people gathered at Iskandhar School to celebrate the formal registration of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). The atmosphere was ecstatic to say the least according to those who went there. There were tear of job and happiness said Mohamed, who never thought he would live to see this day.

Several of the MDP kep leadership spoke to the crowd promising them a fair and just society. MDP Chairman, Mohamed Nasheed (Anni) was amongst the speakers who promised that thing will get better from now and labelled Gayyoom as an old man with no vision to carry forward the substantial task ahead.

Locals are delighted to be able to participate in the discussions. "We now feel that we are free" said Hassan who was amongst the thousands who attended the meeting. Hundreds of people also signed up for MDP membership tonight according to sources. "They were scared of being arrested before and we understand their fear" said Hameed.
