Bushry Column
Shadow Cabinet!
Mohamed Bushry , 21 June 2005 - Bushry Column Archive
The youth of this country hasn't seen a President other than Gayyoom. Hence it is not surprising that many Maldivians cannot imagine anyone else being our president. Any name preceded by the title, President, would still sound bogus to many of us. Would you choke on your own saliva if I say that Gasim Ibrahim could be our next President?
Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has promised to announce a shadow cabinet by July 26th this year. It would be interesting to see who the party leader would be. The current chairman, Nasheed, has said that he is not interested in being the president of this country. This does not mean that Nasheed (Anni) wouldn't be a good minister in a future government.
This seems like a good time for the ordinary members of MDP to brainstorm who will be the leaders in an MDP shadow cabinet. Following is a very rough list of how such a list could look like. I would like to reiterate that it is indeed a rough list. The purpose of this list is to initiate an open debate amongst the general public, as to who could be our future leaders.
1. President Gasim Ibrahim
2. Vice President Ibrahim Ismail (Ibra)
3. Foreign Minister brahim Hussain Zaki
4. Defense Minister Mohamed Shihab
5. Atolls Minister Nasheed (Anni)
6. Home Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed
7. Speaker Nasheed (Kutti)
8. Attorney General Maria
9. Education Ministry Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik
10. Human resource and Labour Abdullah Rasheed (Seedhibe)
11. Finance Minister Rilwan Shareef
12. Fisheries Minister Dr. Shiham
13. Gender Minister Maana Rafiu
14. Health Minister Dr. Abdul Sattar Yousuf
15. Information Minister Shafeeq (Kuda Sappe)
16. Justice Minister Husnu Soodh
17. Technology Minister Dr. Hassan Hameed
18. Planning Minister Rafeeq (rainbow)
19. Construction Minister Mauroof Jameel
20. Tourism Minister Waheedu Deen
21. Trade Minister Bandhu Saleem
22. Transport Minister Mahmood Raazee
23. Youth Minister Aishath Shiyam
24. President of the Islamic Council Faarooq
In a future government, all ministries should have at least one Deputy Minister. There are many capable, qualified people who could fill the posts of deputy ministers. People such as Dr. Mohamed Ali, Dr. Naseer, Muththasim Adhnan, Shareef (Addoo MP), Dr. Khaleel, Hussain Mohamed (TVM), Sheikh Fareed, etc. @
